SpaceX Starlink — Now Has Download Speeds Between 11 and 60 Mbps 📡
According to tests carried out using speedtest.net, beta users of Starlink satellite Internet from SpaceX have download speeds of 10–60 Mbps and upload speeds of 5–18 Mbps. Links to tests have been posted on Reddit. Another user compiled tests for clarity.
The same tests conducted over the last 2 weeks showed latency and ping spread from 31 to 94 ms.
Later, new tests appeared, in which the ping is kept in the region of 20 ms.
Musk said in March that they are “targeting ping times of less than 20 milliseconds so that you can safely play responsive video games at a competitive level.” SpaceX satellites have low-earth orbits ranging from 540 km to 570 km, which makes them capable of operating at much lower latency than geostationary satellites that orbit around 35,000 km.
